Renee Singirankabo

Renee Singirankabo, founder of EmpowerEd RC,  was once a refugee seeking asylum in Canada after fleeing civil war in Burundi in 1994. Leaving behind her beloved family and everything familiar, she arrived in Canada and experienced the incredible support of both public services and compassionate individuals. It is this amazing experience that motivated her to try to help people who are in a difficult situation.

Her first hand understanding of the gap between her life and the struggles faced by parents and children in the refugee camps drives her unwavering determination to provide tuition fees, school uniforms and food to those in need.

At EmpowerEd RC, she firmly believes that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, regaining dignity, and fighting diseases. Basic education and literacy are the foundations that empower children to comprehend and engage with the world, opening endless possibilities for the future. Renee has a Master’s degree in History. She taught elementary and secondary schools.
